Tattoo Aftercare
SECOND SKIN METHOD
Initial Removal:
After 8–24 hours (depending on how much fluid has built up), remove the first layer of second skin applied by your artist. If there’s no visible fluid buildup, it’s best to leave the bandage on. For easiest removal, peel it off slowly in the shower or under running water. Gently clean the area with mild, unscented soap and pat dry with a clean paper towel.
Reapplication:
Once the tattoo and surrounding skin are clean and completely dry, peel off the white backing from a fresh second skin bandage. Make sure the area is relaxed and in a natural position, then apply the second skin. Smooth it over the tattoo, then remove the shiny, patterned top layer.
This second bandage can be worn for up to 5 days. After removing it, continue the healing process with a fragrance-free, unscented aftercare cream, applying it 1–2 times daily with clean hands as needed—especially if the area feels dry or itchy. Healing typically takes around 3 weeks. Keep your tattoo clean and protected, as it is an open wound.
Avoid the Following During Healing:
-
Scratching, picking, or removing scabs
-
Overapplying lotion or cream
-
Using scented lotions or medicated ointments like Polysporin
-
Drying with a bath towel (bacteria risk)
-
Swimming, hot tubs, or soaking (minimum 3 weeks)
-
Sweating heavily while second skin is on
-
Applying additional bandages after second skin is removed
-
Sun exposure or tanning until fully healed
-
Wearing tight clothing that may irritate the tattoo
-
Consuming alcohol within 24 hours (can affect healing)
Once fully healed, we strongly recommend applying sunscreen to your tattoo to help prevent fading.
TRADITIONAL HEALING METHOD

Leave the initial bandage on for 3–5 hours, or as directed by your artist. After removing it, gently wash the area with mild, unscented soap and pat dry with a paper towel. Since a tattoo is an open wound, keeping it clean and protected is essential.
During the healing period, apply a fragrance-free, unscented aftercare cream 1–2 times a day with clean hands, especially when the area feels dry or itchy. Continue this routine for approximately 3 weeks, or until the tattoo is fully healed.
Avoid the Following During Healing:
-
Scratching, picking, or removing scabs
-
Overapplying lotion or cream
-
Using scented or medicated products
-
Drying with bath towels
-
Swimming, soaking, or hot tubs (minimum 3 weeks)
-
Reapplying bandages after the initial one is removed
-
Sun exposure or tanning
-
Tight clothing over the tattoo
-
Drinking alcohol within 24 hours
For long-term care, use sunscreen on healed tattoos to protect against fading.
